BRIGHTON BEE CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES May 9, 2018

     Call to order at 6:35 pm

 

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Minutes from April 11 meeting accepted, motion by 1) Martin Rowe, 2) Thad Gourd
  2. Membership roster purged by Dan Rau & Becki McConnell, dues are still being accepted. 62 members signed up at present.
  3. Swarm update: 5 calls, 3 people sent out, 2 swarms collected.
  4. Mentoring program: 3 people need mentors, contact Martin Rowe if interested.
  5. Bee packages delivered successfully, better communication for next year.
  6. 4 H update for bee program meeting to be held on May 16, Dan Rau will attend. We have 5 or 6 kids signed up.

New Business:

  1. Shannon Tenze, current treasurer, had a job transfer recently to Ft. Collins and is in process of moving further north. She is no longer able to take care of treasurer responsibilities. A motion was made at the BOD meeting on May 3, 2018, to replace Shannon as treasurer. The club must elect a new treasurer at the June 12 meeting. Martin Rowe is temporary treasurer per bylaws. Bookkeeping experience is a plus. Michael Biglen is interested.
  2. Membership roles explained, a full member has club voting rights and is added as a member of the CSBA.  An associate member has no voting rights on club matters and is not submitted for membership to the CSBA.

  4. Hive installation discussion held, questions answered. If you had a dead queen, don’t install package in order to get queen replaced. Miles is having hive inspecions on Saturday, May 12. Don Stadinsky had a 60 percent loss. He drove to Arkansas for Russian bees.
  5. Drawing: Thad won a sugar shake jar, Martin Jones also won a sugar shake   jar and Larry Caschette won a sugar shake kit.  All items donated by The BeeKeepers Den in Brighton.
  6. Thad talked about the Adams County Fair and Honey Fair. More information will be available next month. Fair will be July 25 –July 31.  Honey will be judged as light, medium and dark. There are 2 judges lined up, instructions are available on the internet.
